Dear Andy,
Viscous work should be updated each time one contact is computed, just like plastic dissipation. The best place to do that is in the contact law functor itself. You could check how plastic dissipation is computed (e.g. ElasticContactLaw.cpp:82) and do something similar for viscous dissipation.
