Re: [Question #295377]: information about latop to run high triaxial test using discrete element method

Question #295377 on Yade changed:

    Status: Open => Answered

Jan Stránský proposed the following answer:
Hello,

please be more specific on the term "high triaxial test", especially how
many particles you will have in your simulation.

Anyway, personally I would consider buying a desktop for the computational
part and leave laptop for "office" work (then the parameters of laptop does
not matter). Just my personal opinion.

Usually DEM simulations are not excessively (depending on the number of
particles) expensive in terms of RAM. Usually the "speed of computer" (CPU
in your enumeration) is the determining factor. Of course, "speed" combines
not only CPU but also other parts of the computer. Graphics in Yade is just
"luxurious" extension and also is not the determining part of the
simulation.

cheers
Jan
