Could you clarify the boundary conditions?!
"two rigid walls that move oppositely" are moving toward each other or parallel to each other?
Also, what is the difference between a "cubic composite" and "many interacting particles in a box"?
I don't think you can get relevant comments on shortcomings with such a vague description.
