It looks like nobody has taken this up and it's been open for over a
year.  I'm going to move this into the "Opinion / WIshlist" state so

Bug description:
  Implement volume deletion directly to an attached volume.

  Change the volume delete API to unmount the volume if it is attached
  and then delete the volume.
