Bug description:
  When the message passed to mask_password() contains non-ASCII
  characters the line:

        message = six.text_type(message)

  fails with:

        UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xe9 in
  position 128: ordinal not in range(128)
