Getting cursor working with Zim and Pygtk for mac

I installed Zim on OS X Mavericks using these instructions:

It works and looks great, except one thing: I can't see the cursor in
note text. I can type and edit notes just fine, but the cursor is invisible.

Seems like there must be some sort of pygtk tweak I need to make
somewhere...
