installation with kernel 2.6.37

Good afternoon for all!

Thanks to the developers who created ubuntu for ac100! One month ago, I installed it on my ac100,
following the instructions given on the web page

http://salaliitto.com/~gildean/ac100/wiki/phh/

The kernel used is 2.6.31, and my ac100 works nicely with it. The only problems I have:

-- the sound works only with headphones, and its quality seems to be not so good as it was with android 2.2,

-- I was unable to use the hdmi output to connect the ac100 to a TV; the TV screen was not found.

Except these two problems, I am very happy with this version of ubuntu on my ac100.

This morning I tried to install ubuntu with kernel 2.6.37, following the instructions given on the README file of

http://people.canonical.com/~ogra/tegra/2.6.37/

I think that there is a small misprint in a command indicated on this README file: instead of

sudo LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. ./nvflash --bl ./fastboot.bin --read 6 tegra_partition_6.bin --go

it should be, I believe,

sudo LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. ./nvflash --bl ./fastboot.stock.bin --read 6 tegra_partition_6.bin --go.

With this small correction, I followed the instructions on this README file, putting the uncompressed tarball ubuntu-natty-netbook-2.6.37-1-ac100-rootfs.tgz1 on an usb key and plugging both that usb key and an sdcard
in the ac100, then booting the ac100. Alas, it ended with the error message

Error: No tarball found,

and I was left with an initramfs shell.

I wonder which mistake I made? Maybe it is because my ac100 was already equipped with ubuntu (kernel 2.6.31), installed
on the internal memory card, not with android 2.2?

Finally I flashed again on part 6 of the ac100 the file 32.boot.menu.v1.img, as indicated by gildean, and recovered a working ac100 with ubuntu kernel 2.6.31, as it was before. So no harm occured!

Is it possible to upgrade the kernel, from 2.6.31 to 2.6.37, without reinstalling all? Does such an upgrade give more functionalities (I have read that the sound will not work, so I think about the hdmi output for
connection with an external screen or a video beamer)?

Is it possible to install Debian instead of Ubuntu (I use Debian on my main computer)?

Thanks a lot, the ubuntu I have on my ac100 is already very good!

Sincerely,

C.-M. Marle
