please check  /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes after reboot.
If it does not contain 16386, please do a chmod +x /etc/rc.local. Several people have
reported that doing this solved the problem for them (until now). Here is my rc.local btw:

Already checked that -- just tried it again after installing all current upgrades and rebooting, still no touchpad action. I also have a line to rfkill bluetooth in my /etc/rc.local and that works fine. Any logs I should look at?
