Dan,

Also, the kernel modules backports package fixed the broken wireless
power management features in 9.10. 

But the best wireless experience I've had is with the 10-28-09
wireless-compat modules. Just google for wireless-compat. You have to
build them from src but it's quite easy and automatic.
