Open Lantern (icon with flame on top left of toolbar), create a new
slide from the dropdown just below that toolbar icon (above the slide
list) and add a textarea (justify icon above main workspace). You
should see a TinyMCE window pop up.

That didn't produce a separate window, although it's always possible I
mis-interpreted your instructions... (Which would be my fault, by the way.)
What are the contents of the following folder on your installation?
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/Aesthete-0.4.2-py2.7.egg/aesthete/third_party
(Possibly the first bit will be different, of course.)
