Re: Welcome
Hello Team...
I am one of those who dared tread into the uncommented code called
apt-zeroconf (AZC). My initial intent was to make it more like approx,
which was written in Perl. Apt-zeroconf is the best personal cache
option going forward, because it leverages mDNS with Avahi to create
ad-hoc apt caches on the LAN and it is written in Python.
I have concentrated my efforts with essential three of the six modules
that comprise the apt-zeroconf--http, avaphi, config. I have made
comments, factorings, and modifications while adding redirects and
improving the informational pages that apt-zeroconf serves.
I know that with your help, we can shape apt-zeroconf into a simple and
secure personal package cache for even the beginning user. Packages
fetched should come from the same repository, but apt-zeroconf does not
make the that distinction. In this vein, we need to look at apt-zeroconf
dynamically configuring itself by knowing about a user's sources.list to
allow for choice in hitting a LAN cache or Internet mirror.
I am open to further suggestions and assistance. Each module needs an
accurate and complete doc strings. Each module should be reviewed for
duplication and simplification. As noted by Jorge, I think utilizing
other maintained libraries like python-apt would be useful.
The end result should be jewel that should be considered for tighter
integration with the base python apt libraries.
