I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 with Gnome. UL30A with intel graphics and dualcore
ULV. (SU7300)

glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset GEM
20090712 2009Q2 RC3

With Compiz (effects) on...
glxgears
2470 frames in 5.0 seconds
2622 frames in 5.0 seconds
2580 frames in 5.0 seconds

... and off
glxgears
2093 frames in 5.0 seconds
2193 frames in 5.0 seconds
2137 frames in 5.0 seconds
1986 frames in 5.0 seconds
