Someone on this list (I think) pointed to http://codegrove.org/evdaemon/

So far it works awesomely without having to hit the hotkey to disable the
pad; it automatically disables the touchpad while typing.  The only glitch
I've seen so far is sometimes it takes a second (probably not even a full
one) to reactivate and I try to start mousing before it reactivates.
