As John noted, the problem #2 is caused by problem #1. The touchpad is
so sensitive that even slightest touch moves the pointer and emits a
click/press.
The main problem is that the touchpad is not recognized as a real
touchpad, and is not therefore handled by synaptics driver.
The touchpad can be switched on/off with a key combination, see the wiki
page at the beginning of this post.
Alternatively, the touchpad can be switched off/on when keyboard is
used/idle, see http://codegrove.org/evdaemon/
