I upgraded to latest Bumblebee 3.0 stable via PPA through Update
Manager. All went fine, then I run:
$ optirun firefox
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":8".
the clue to the problem I found here:
https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bumblebee/wiki/Supported-drivers
I needed to do the following to make the LibGL work:
1. open as admin /etc/bumblebee/bumblebee.conf
2. edit line 22 so it reads
Driver=nvidia
then do the following, to be sure:
After installation, allow yourself to use Bumblebee (replace $USER by
your username):
sudo usermod -a -G bumblebee $USER
Then, reboot.

Now I notice even though its running few degrees cooler, after a while -
5 minutes or so, when temp drops below 59 degrees - the fan starts to
make intermittent whirring sound, then constant whirring very noisy, too
noisy. I suspect Power Management features...
so I run as advised on bbswitch page:
$ dmesg | grep -C 10 bbswitch:

the fan noise problem occurs with or without the
ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
the machine is too noisy to use...
any ideas how to fix??
