Unfortunately we cannot technically implement your suggestion as it breaks the isolation between client and addons code.
We have put a warning instead, to at least make users aware of this specific issue.

If you have a better suggestion that would work within the current
technical specifications (i.e. a regular form view must not have access
to client-side data structures like other open tabs, etc.), that would
be welcome of course.

I'm closing the current bug as we can't implement this particular
solution.

BTW, I don't know if you have actually seen this warning yet, because it
was not working properly. This has been corrected in the latest trunk
(server rev 2960).

IMHO it should not be possible to switch company if unsaved data exists as this may produce inconsistant data. (???)
