Thanks for the quick reply! It seems I failed to add the ppa:repo since I got
cairo originally from the Ubuntu repo. Getting it up to date should do it, though.
Incidentally, that workaround does not ... uh ... work ... around, since when
you disable recent files, the "blocked" sub-menu simply disappears from the
applications menu altogether.

Title:
unity-2d-panel replaces random menu subheading with recently used
files list
Status in Cairo-Dock: Plug-ins:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Version 3.0.0 of cairo-dock on Ubuntu 12.0.4 x86_64 with Nvidia (2 x 550Ti)
Have Unity, Gnome3 and now Cairo Dock all installed, and use "Cairo-Dock (with Gnome and effects)" sessions (so debugging not available, at least I do not know how to set it to do that :/ )
The application dropdown menu should list the gnome applications,
however, depnding on some variable I am unable to determine, one (at
random) menu entry shows the recent file list. Currently it is
Accessories, before that it was Programming which was replaced. Once
replaced you can not get to that submenu's content throught the menu.
I tried editing the menu, adding a new major submenu (Other) to the
list, just to see if it would "fix itself". This is what trggered the
change from blocking the Programming sub-menu to now blocking the
Accessories sub-menu.
As a work-around I have added a sub-dock to the main dock which has my
most used Accessories ... but it is a bit annoying.
