both 
skype-ubuntu_2.2.0.35-1_amd64.deb
skype-ubuntu_2.2.0.35-1_i386.deb
appear to be 32bit applications.
when I try to install either of them on a 64bit ubuntu, aptitude claims dependencies on dozens of i386 packages.
