I've noticed this behavior in Firefox and Songbird, though it may happen
elsewhere.

Dialog boxes that resize themselves upon button clicks shift a little
bit down and to the right when they do.  To reproduce this, in Firefox
with several open tabs, click "Bookmarks," "Bookmark All Tabs," then
click the down-arrow next to the folder name.

Replacing Compiz with Metacity eliminates this problem.  It also doesn't
seem to be a problem with the "Place Windows" plugin, as disabling that
has no effect.

In Songbird this can be observed when adding or removing criteria from
Smart Playlists.
