[Bug 447563] [NEW] Compiz Fusion has tearing even with Sync to VBlank with nVidia cards

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Hello,

I have noticed that with nVidia drivers, there is slight tearing when
viewing video and 3d applications. It is very annoying and ruins the
desktop experience for me. Another way to verifiy the tearing is to zoom
in with the "Enhanced Desktop Zoom" (super + scroll) and move around the
mouse. The screen will also tear. In order to fix this, there is a patch
that is being discussed in this mailing list : http://www.mail-
archive.com/compiz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/msg02986.html. Apparently this
option has been added to 0.8.3 according to this bug report :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/422384 . However,
in the Ubuntu Karmic Koala, which has Compiz 0.8.3, these options are
not available. If you run for example "compiz --replace --always-swap",
we get an error message telling us that "--always-swap" is a non-
existing option. This would be a nice fix for Compiz in Ubuntu, and it
would make it more professional looking.

Good luck with the fixes.

Linux ahmed 2.6.31-13-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 8 20:04:50 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
