[Bug 481388] [NEW] all the objects on the desktop are invisible (!?!?)

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

After the Jaunty->Karmic upgrade the compiz package is not usable: when I launch 'compiz --replace' all the objects (windows, panels,...) become invisible, i.e. I can see only the wallpaper. I can interact with them using mouse (the point changes its shape when moved on a text area) or keyboard. I'm using the intel driver.
The same behavior appears using 'gnome-shell --replace' but not with 'metacity -c --replace'. Compiz is usable if I use 'compiz --replace --indirect-rendering' (with minor bug), but I've never used it.
The bug should be independent from my user settings: it appears also with a fresh test user. I've tried to boot the karmic live CD and the bug doesn't appear with it.

I would contribute to the stability of the compiz package (ubuntu in
general) so I'm reporting it. This behavior is very annoying and I'm
going to reinstall a fresh karmic in few days; I hope you find the time
to work on this report before.

Thanks for your work.
