Binary package hint: compiz

Since I upgraded to Lucid, The following happens on startup:

Compiz seems not to have loaded, the cursor turns to a large X and the
title bar of windows is missing.

As a work around, I start the Compiz Fusion Icon -> Select Window
Manager, which shows Compiz active. I then switch to Metacity and back
to Compiz, which cures the problem until next bootup.

Although I have switched over (95% Ubuntu/5% Windoze), I am a noob on
Ubuntu, so I would appreciate step-by-step instructions for any fix.
