[Bug 568410] [NEW] Cannot click inside windows after enabling compiz

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

After enabling compiz, I was unable to click the "keep settings" button
in the confirmation dialog box. Clicking changed the pointer to the move
window "hand/finger" pointer. I used the <Alt>k keyboard shortcut to
keep the setting but then discovered that I was unable to click on any
buttons or UI elements in any window, with the same symptom of the
pointer changing and the window moving on drag. After installing the
compiz settings manager, I found that it set my move window shortcut to
mouse button1, so all left-clicks were being interpreted as move window.

After some more looking around, it seems that my profile had no movement
key configured in gnome-window-preferences (see screenshot). I am not
sure how this happened - this system is an upgrade from Karmic but I
don't recall opening that dialog on this account. To reproduce this
issue, run:

$ gconftool --type string --set
/apps/metacity/general/mouse_button_modifier ''

Aside from disabling the modifier key, this setting does not seem to
impact gnome operation at all. However, when enabling visual effects,
the system becomes virtually unusable.
