I have the same issue on Maverick, with gnome-panel placed at the bottom
of the screen and clock applet in the right part of panel - after
opening dropdown, it is displayed at the top of the screen (and only
part of it is visible). Fortunately, Kantastisk's workaround did the
trick for me.
