Binary package hint: compiz

Running Ubuntu 10.10 (but this has been a problem since I have had this
PC, 9.10 onwards)

Compiz Version 1:0.8.6-0ubuntu9.1

I expect to log into my system and for everything to work

However, unless the compiz fusion icon is installed and running in the
system tray then the computer will freeze usually within a min of
logging in and only a hard shutdown will work. Even installing the icon,
then telling it not to start at login has the same affect, the system
freezes.
