Binary package hint: compiz

I decided to give GNOME a go on my machine (normally I use KDE).
Installed "ubuntu-desktop" and "compiz" packages, logged into "ubuntu
classic desktop" or "ubuntu default desktop" and got something more or
less working (I do not know how normal gnome session should like).

But after running few applications I wanted to switch between them by
using Alt-Tab (which I think is normal combo for this action). Whole
machine hung... I was not able to switch to VT1 or ssh login remotely
from other computer - had to reset it hard.
