In order to be able to use Unity at all on my GeForce 6200 LE, I had to
change to nouveau from nvidia-current (possibly because of the lack of
AccelerateTrapezoids on that card) since showing the dash, using the
desktop switcher and viewing full screen video was extremely laggy.

Now I am faced with a different set of problems.

The most prominent one is that moving windows is very slow. There is no
tearing or jerkiness, but the window trails far behind the cursor. This
affects the open and close window animation as well. The rectangle
displayed when making a selection on the desktop or resizing windows is
very slow as well, as is typing in the dash or the hovering change when
hovering over programs in the applications lens.

When anything on the screen is animating---such as the Resources tab of
Gnome System Monitor, or a flash animation---the slowness however turns
to a jerkiness, but moving windows this way is a lot more responsive,
since the windows jump to the expected position a few times every
second.

I have tried Unity 2D, Gnome Shell and Gnome Classic with and without
effects; none exhibit this behaviour. Furthermore, disabling the Unity
plugin in ccsm almost completely removes the slowness.

Moving windows does not have a noticeable effect on the CPU.

In ccsm, I have tried with automatic refresh rate detection, fixed rate
and turned on and off sync to v-blank, but there is no difference.
