Have conky specs:
own_window yes
own_window_class Conky
own_window_type normal
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager

Open an application (e.g. gedit or system-settings) and close it again, desktop doesn't automatically takes focus.
User needs to left click on conky window to focus desktop in order to invoke shortcuts to switch workspaces (ctrl+alt+arrow) or alt+f2.
own_window_type desktop doesn't help.

This was fixed in Oneiric bug 871277 #7.
