I'm using Ubuntu Precise beta 1 with all current updates (amd64).

So far, I was able to switch from unity (3d) to metacity without logging off, with the following command-line :
metacity --replace

Since the upgrade of compiz to version 0.9.7.2-0ubuntu1, it does not work any more : unity seems to be automatically relaunched.
It was working with previous version of compiz (0.9.7.0+bzr3035-0ubuntu1)
