[Bug 1008806] [NEW] Sometimes screen lock doesn't unlock on ubuntu 12.04

Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop, with the classic GNOME session
(not unity).

Sometimes, after closing the screen, the screenlocker won't restore the
session despite giving the appropriate password. The screenlocker blocks
on the password dialog and nothing happens (the password field then
remains grayed).

Logging to a console, killing compiz then replacing with metacity (DISPLAY=:0 metacity --replace) restores the session.
Replacing metacity with compiz return to the locked screen, this time without the password prompt dialog.

I don't know how the screen lock is handled on precise as the command "gnome-screensaver-command -d" doesn't respond.
Until a fix for this issue is found, is there a way to manually unlock the screen from the command line without killing compiz?

Thanks

NB. I couldn't give a strict way to reproduce the bug. It seems the
failure to unlock the screen only happens when the screen locks itself
(not when pressing ctrl+alt+L), but not systematically.

** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
