Since a few days, my lock screen doesn't work anymore. The desktop seems
washed out white (I can still see it) on one of my screens, while the
other one remains visible. There is something stealing the focus, so I
can't interact with any windows anymore. Unfortunately there isn't a
login dialog shown either, so there's nothing else I can do than go to a
virtual console (Ctrl-Alt-F1) and kill gnome-session (or unity or X).

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 with a few PPAs.

Any ideas what may  cause this to happen?
