Public bug reported:

I just updated compiz and unity on the 24th.  After updating, logging
into my account gives me a useless gui, with compiz crashing.

I had to create a fresh account to log in and report this bug.  The
account that crashes was created with my machine installed with Ubuntu
12.04 and I then upgraded to 12.10.  It's been working fine until the
last update.
