** Description changed:

  After I resume my laptop from sleep, all my windows have huge black
  borders around them, until I replace compiz.

+ WORKAROUND (to be confirmed): switch to a text console, then switch back
+ to X (for example, Ctrl-Alt-F2, then Ctrl_Alt-F7).
