I have the same issue after adding the PPA. UI has frozen twice today.
Description of the last time: UI froze and didn't take any input. I could move the cursor, but after moving the mouse I had to wait a few seconds before the new position of the cursor appeared (one time I could move it freely though). The cursor didn't change its appearance after hovering text fields. Reaction to pressing numlock (keyboard LED) was either very delayed or didn't happen at all(?).
Switching to tty1 and back to tty7 fixed it.

I'm not sure if I see higher compiz memory usage than usual. It's about 390 MiB right now (uptime only 1 day), not sure if it was lower before, Unity's memory usage has always been excessive for me (mainly Xorg + compiz).
However the freezes weren't caused by low memory situations, as I had a few GBs free.
