[Bug 1387488] [NEW] periodic compiz freezes with no logs or error messages, requires me to kill compiz

Public bug reported:

To start, unfortunately, I have no idea how to reproduce this, nor how
to trigger it. All I know is that occasionally I will go away and come
back hours later to discover that compiz is locked up tight.

What I see when this happens is the lock screen (screen locks when the
screensaver engages or screen blanks). I can still get mouse cursor
movements which is enough to trigger the monitor to turn back on, BUT
the password entry box is FULL of dots and while I can move the pointer
around, clicks are not registered anywhere, nor is any keypress.

When this happens, I can restore the session by sshing into the system,
and killing the compiz process which I always find consuming between 96
and 99% CPU and hung. Once I kill compiz, it reloads and I am able to
get back into the system and continue on.

This happens at least once a week, it seems and I have no idea what
triggers it as the system is always left idle when it occurs.

System is an Alienware M15x with an nVidia GT240M card using the
proprietary nVidia drivers.
