I use a private subversion-1.4.6 installation, this works quite well.
I've built it with these commands:
./configure --prefix=~/minimals/svn && make && make install

Then I use this command, to build the binaries:
PATH=~/minimals/svn/bin:$PATH ./build-binaries/build-binaries.sh
