I have no experience with these either. However there are a few things to note.

External libraries should not be hard dependencies (as an example,
ImageMagick is only used if it is available, otherwise a fallback gets
called).

Pantheios is not packaged in Debian
(http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages), which is problematic for
many Linux users.
