Hi

I made a trial merge from the refactoring branch and pushed it to
trunk. It's looking mostly fine but there are some problems. The main
one being that it totally broke the build on Windows. I had to hack on
it quite a lot to make it work again. Since we want to keep MSVC and
MinGW as supported platforms, this is a problem.

Serj, could you comment on what your branch's goals are? I assume you
want to merge them to trunk eventually?

For other people who want to branch the code and do their own stuff:
go right ahead. But please feed your changes back in small increments.
The more you diverge from mainline the harder it becomes to join the
trees again.
