[Bug 2002358] Re: Screen turned off after seconds of inactivity, fixed by xset -dpms; bug depending on kernel version?
This seems to be a rather frequent issue if we consider the number of
upvotes on this Q&A: https://askubuntu.com/q/1408394/38631
I’m a bit surprised by the low number of votes here. Would there be
another bug report with more votes?
OTOH, if this only happens under X.org, it might not affect many people
nowadays, but X.org remains the only option for Nvidia (desktop) users
who want to use sleep mode, based on bug #1876632.

Status in linux-signed-hwe-5.15 package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Now and then I have the problem, that the screen turns off after
seconds of keyboard or mouse inactivity. I think that it changes with
kernel versions but I'm not 100% sure that kernel version is the
cause. The annoying bug is present for some time then it's gone, and
after a while, the problem is back.
Two days ago following packages were installed or updated, since then
the problem is there again:
Install: linux-hwe-5.15-headers-5.15.0-57:amd64 (5.15.0-57.63~20.04.1, automatic), linux-image-5.15.0-57-generic:amd64 (5.15.0-57.63~20.04.1, automatic), linux-headers-5.15.0-57-generic:amd64 (5.15.0-57.63~20.04.1, automatic), linux-modules-extra-5.15.0-57-generic:amd64 (5.15.0-57.63~20.04.1, automatic), linux-modules-5.15.0-57-generic:amd64 (5.15.0-57.63~20.04.1, automatic)

Today I figured out that
xset -dpms
solves the problem but
xset s off
does not.
In gnome-control-center -> Power I have the following settings:
Power Saving: Blank Screen -> 15 minutes ( Selecting Never doesn't
change anything.)
Suspend & Power Button:
Automatic Suspend: On, Delay 15 minutes
Power Button Action: Power off
I'm using
