[Bug 2117508] Re: NVIDIA driver doesn't compile with new kernel

You can use the 6.8 kernel for the rest of your time Ubuntu 24.04 (as
long as it works for the rest of your hardware). That way, you don't
need a new GPU for another 4 years. See duplicate bug report for
details.

Title:
NVIDIA driver doesn't compile with new kernel

Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-470 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I am running a workstation with an old NVIDIA GK107GL (Quadro K2000)
  graphics card. This uses nvidia-driver-470.

On Friday, I received a kernel upgrade to 6.14.0-24. It appears that
the 470 driver is no longer available for this kernel. Consequently my
display was hosed after rebooting - symptoms: no ability to use
multiple monitors, poor resolution, windows larger than the available
  display area.

I have temporarily resolved this by rolling the kernel back to 6.11.0-29 and purging the new kernel - unfortunately, the attached logs are from this version of the kernel where everything is working.

It is not clear to me if this is a bug or if this older driver is no longer supported. I thought I would report in case it is the former. If it is the latter, at least I will know that I should buy a new graphics card!

I am not the only person seeing this issue:
