When I close the lid of my laptop, gnome-power-manager always throttles the screensaver (as indicated by the following output):
$ gnome-screensaver --debug --no-daemon |& grep -i throttle
[listener_add_ref_entry] gs-listener-dbus.c:716 (10:53:12):	 adding throttler from Power screensaver for reason 'Laptop lid is closed' on connection :1.18
[listener_check_throttle] gs-listener-dbus.c:353 (10:53:12):	 Checking for throttle
[list_ref_entry] gs-listener-dbus.c:279 (10:53:12):	 throttler: Power screensaver for reason: Laptop lid is closed
[gs_listener_set_throttle] gs-listener-dbus.c:340 (10:53:12):	 Changing throttle status: 1

However, this should not happen when external displays are connected, as
it is the case for me.
