Title:
Brightness applet doesnt change brightness and randomly moves

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

1.) The main issue is that gnome power manager still cannot adjust
brightness of LCD screen on Asus U80A laptop. Whether using function
keys or gnome power manager, it shows adjustments but brightness level
  doesn't change.

2.) The funky issue is that when I use the actual gnome power manager brightness applet if I click on it to adjust the slider for brightness it
  a.) immediately disappears
b.) if I click on it again the physical slider can appear randomly across the screen
c.) doesn't actually "SHOW" any physical adjustment

3.) What should happen is pretty simple. Brightness should adjust and
the applet shouldn't have the slider appear randomly across the screen
instead of attached to the applet
