[Bug 828556] Re: When wireless is enabled, anything touching the network deadlocks in the kernel

My system is fully up to date and I can't reproduce the issue at all; at
this point, the best I can say is that this could be an extra driver
that was installed (broadcom STA or bcmwl?). Best to do is to reassign
to 'linux' and provide additional information.

Chris, if you could attach /var/log/apt/history.log from roughly when
that system started hanging, maybe we can track it down to an extra
installed piece.

Title:
When wireless is enabled, anything touching the network deadlocks in
  the kernel

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After the update today (2011/09/18), if I have by broadcom wireless
enabled then, after a minute or so of uptime, anything which touches
the network will get deadlocked in in the kernel, with rtnl_lock near
the top of the kernel stack. This includes everything from firefox
and evolution, to "ip addr" and even "sudo", which obviously makes the
system nearly unusable. This also prevented "stop network-manager"
  from returning.

This doesn't seem to be directly a kernel problem - the
3.0.0-8-generic kernel was working fine up until today, and I've also
tried the 3.0.0-7-generic kernel which also worked; the same issue
  occurs.

  Syslog attached.
