Title:
GIMP not usable without menu-icons set for Gnome via menus_have_icons

Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gimp

  Since Ubuntu 9.10 the gconf-setting (gconf-editor)
/desktop/interface/menus_have_icons is switched off (FALSE). This
might be a good decision for menus in Gnome in general, but in GIMP
dialogues like "Gradient Editor Popup-Menu" are not usable at all -
unless you are good in reading numerical RGB values. As one can see in
this screenshot of the menu, the colours (=icons) are essential:
  http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-gradient-dialog.html#gimp-gradient-
  editor-left-load

I set menus_have_icons to TRUE for the moment:
conftool-2 --set /desktop/gnome/interface/menus_have_icons --type bool true

Any ideas how to fix this in general?
