Title:
after updating (e.g. via synaptic), firefox does not restart
Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
From time to time Synaptic comes up with an update for Firefox. In
this situation Firefox is running even before Synaptic comes up. After
the update has been completed, a small yellow message appears beneath
address and bookmarks bar noting "Your browser has been updated and
has to be restarted." alongside a "Restart now" button. So far
everything is correct.
== Expected behaviour ==
After clicking the restart button, the Firefox (old) window
disappears, Firefox (old) shuts down, Firefox (new) starts, the small
Firefox (new) window checking for the compatibility of extensions
appears, closes shortly thereafter, the Firefox (new) window appears,
reloads my session, I can continue using Firefox.
== Experienced behaviour ==
After clicking the restart button, the Firefox (old) window
disappears, Firefox (old) shuts down. [first part of the expected
chain]
Nothing beyond happens. There is no Firefox process afterwards ("ps
aux|grep fire" only shows the grep). Starting Firefox manually works
and fires up the 2nd part of the expected chain:
Firefox (new) starts, the small Firefox (new) window checking for the
compatibility of extensions appears, closes shortly thereafter, the
Firefox (new) window appears, reloads my session, I can continue using
Firefox.
So close and start both work perfectly, but restart unfortunatly does
not restart the browser but instead just closes it.
== Severity ==
Severity is low, because even novel users waiting for the restart will
manually try to start Firefox after a short period of waiting.
