Message #101239
[Bug 1422446] [NEW] Dependency on Webkit-Gtk
Public bug reported:
Empathy depends on Webkit-Gtk. Webkit-Gtk is a massive (if not one of
the most massive to build) library for full-fledged web browsers.
Empathy has not, nor should it have, any ambitions to be any sort of
webbrowser. Empathy should not depend on webkit (which in turn depends
on dozen of other libraries) if it does not use Webkit-Gtk for what
Webkit-Gtk is supposed to be used for (i.e. rendering HTML).
If possible, the parts which currently use Webkit should be rewritten to
either use an appropriate library or do what ever needs to be done
itself.
** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
