[Bug 1323389] Re: Xorg freezes when resuming laptop with external monitors
Will Shackleton, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04
/product-support/product/precision-m3800-workstation/drivers an update
to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A07). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?
If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.
Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.
Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status New.
Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
Xorg freezes when resuming laptop with external monitors
Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
When resuming my laptop from sleep via the keyboard, occasionally X
will freeze up - this is usually associated with one of my monitors
not displaying output. I can't reach a terminal with Ctrl-Alt-F2 and I
have to open the laptop and reboot with Alt-PrtScr-(REISUB) (hard
reboot) - the USB keyboard won't work in this situation.
This only happens occasionally and will usually happen if I wake the
laptop before turning the screens back on.
There are other cases that can also trigger X freezes but I'm not sure
if they are related (eg. unplugging screens).
The following is commonly seen in dmesg during normal behaviour:
[drm:intel_dp_aux_native_write] *ERROR* too many retries, giving up
[drm:intel_dp_start_link_train] *ERROR* failed to enable link training
