[Bug 1381994] Re: Display switching no longer works

mjh, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per
http://www.asus.com/us/supportonly/ASUS%20VivoBook%20X202E/HelpDesk_download/
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (210).
If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
  Display switching no longer works

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Hi,

  I have an Asus X202E laptop, with i3-2365M CPU and iGPU. I find that
  the display switching between integrated and external displays no
  longer works.

  Steps to reproduce:

  * Boot laptop without extenal display attached.
  * Log in.
  * Connect external, powered-on display to HDMI port
  * Press fn-F8

  Expected behaviour:
  * Repeated presses of fn-F8 cycles through (in some order I forget):
   - internal display only
   - internal display mirrored to external at internal's resolution
   - external display only, at internal's resolution
   - desktop extended from internal to external
   - external only at external's resolution

  This was the observed and desired behaviour up until a few months ago,
  before the problem manifested

  Current observed behaviour:
  * Internal display mirrored to external at internal's resolution
  * Mouse motion continue to work, mouse click input ignored
  * Further presses of fn-F8 are ignored.
