[Bug 1429026] [NEW] nvidia graphics card not detected
Public bug reported:
Hi,
I am using the following Hardware:
Motherboard GA-J1900N-D3V
Garphics card Zotac GT 610 PCI
Monitor Asus PB278Q
As the on-board intel HD graphics GPU can not drive the 2560x1440
resolution of athe monitor I need the graphics card. The motherboard
only comes with a PCI slot, so I chose the Zotac GT610 PCI card.
However, it is not recognized by the sytem.
here is the output of lspci -nn

dmesg | grep VGA yields
[ 0.874589] fb0: EFI VGA frame buffer device
[ 2.202555] fb: conflicting fb hw usage inteldrmfb vs EFI VGA - removing generic driver
I have researched the 'conflicting fb hw ...' message. I do not know if this is related to the problem but the www-posted solutions don't help in my case:
1: try install nivdia proprietary drivers - the NVIDIA installer did not find a card
2: remove gfxmode $linux_gfxmode from grub
Other attempts:
I have set my BIOS to video: UEFI first (as recommended by the support team from GIGABYTE) but that did not change anything, either - still booting with intel HD graphics only
I have turned off ontel onboard graphics which makes the system to fail booting at all (BIOS reset required to get back)
Other observations:
The system is not even recognizing the 1920x1080 resolution for intel HD graphics, I have to add it via xrandr. Strangely, when doing so, i get the 1920x1080, but a monitor-error message pops up (this comes from the monitor hardware directly, not from ubuntu) telling me that I am not using a DUAL link DVI cable (which is not true, I do use a DVI-D Dual Link which was perfectly capable of transmitting all high resolutions) - this looks like an intel HD driver issue - but I can clear this error message by pressing a monitor key...
