Message #110687
[Bug 1439442] [NEW] files mistakenly named with a ? at end of filename displaying in all gui apps (nautilus, firefox, office writer, gedit (in file open dialog)) does not show the ? at end of filename. Only appears in console window.
Public bug reported:
Ubuntu release ver: 14.10
Package: Some nautilus package?
I accidentally named a group of files with filenames that ended with a
question mark (?). Calling programs could not find these files because
their filenames were appended with ?s. Looking at the files in nautilus
(and all other gui apps including gedit), the filenames appear without
the question mark, even when the filename is displayed during the
renaming process. It looks like there is nothing wrong with the
filename. Look at the same files in a console/terminal window using ls
shows the ?s. Need to fix the gui to show the REAL filename.
